1.1 Overview
Shelf Types are used to categorize the nature of storage locations in the warehouse, such as picking zones, storage zones, staging areas, etc. Through shelf type management, you can define the purpose of different areas, helping the system plan picking routes and manage inventory. System reserved types cannot be deleted to ensure core functionality operates properly.

Scenario 1: Add a Shelf Type
Situation: The warehouse is adding a new area specifically for returned goods and needs to create a corresponding shelf type.
How to do it:
- Go to "Settings" → "Shelf Types"
- Click the "Add" button
- Enter the type name "Return Staging"
- Enter the type code "RETURN"
- Click "Confirm" to save
Result: The new shelf type is created and can be selected when creating shelves.
Scenario 2: Edit Shelf Type Name
Situation: Want to rename "Staging Area" to "Inspection Area" to better describe its purpose.
How to do it:
- Go to Shelf Types list
- Find the "Staging Area" type
- Click the "Edit" button in that row
- Change the name to "Inspection Area"
- Click "Confirm" to save
Result: The shelf type name is updated.
Scenario 3: Delete an Unused Shelf Type
Situation: An old shelf type is no longer in use and needs to be cleaned up.
How to do it:
- Go to Shelf Types list
- Confirm the type does not have a "System Reserved" tag
- Click the "Delete" button in that row
- If shelves are using this type, select a replacement type
- Confirm deletion
Result: The shelf type is deleted, and related shelves (if any) are updated to the replacement type.

System Reserved Types
System reserved types are essential base types required for system operation, including:
- Picking Zone
- Storage Zone
- Receiving Staging
- Shipping Staging
These types cannot be deleted; only their names can be edited.

2.2 Step-by-Step
▸ Add a Shelf Type
- Go to Shelf Types list
- Click the "Add" button in the top right
- Fill in the type information in the modal
- Enter type name
- Enter type code
- Click "Confirm" to complete
▸ Edit a Shelf Type
- Find the target type in the list
- Click the "Edit" button in that row
- Modify the type name in the modal
- Click "Confirm" to save changes
Note: Type code cannot be modified after creation.
▸ Delete a Shelf Type
- Find the target type in the list
- Confirm the type does not have a "System Reserved" tag
- Click the "Delete" button in that row
- If shelves are using this type, the system will ask you to select a replacement type
- Confirm deletion
Note: System reserved types cannot be deleted.

3.1 FAQ
▪ What are system reserved types?
System reserved types are essential shelf types required for system operation, such as picking zones, storage zones, etc. These types cannot be deleted to ensure the system functions properly.
▪ Can I modify the name of a system reserved type?
Yes. The name of system reserved types can be modified, but the code cannot be changed.
▪ What happens to shelves using a deleted type?
If shelves are using the type being deleted, the system will ask you to select a replacement type, and the related shelves will be automatically updated to the replacement type.
▪ What is the purpose of the type code?
The type code is an identifier used internally by the system for program logic. It's recommended to use short English letters or numbers, such as PICK, STOCK, TEMP, etc.
▪ How many shelf types can I create?
There is no limit on the number of shelf types. You can create as many as needed based on your warehouse requirements.
